“Turn to me and be saved, all the ends of the earth. For I am God, and there is no other” (Isaiah 45.22).
An invitation is often ignored or rejected. Jesus invites all the ends of the earth to turn to Him and be saved. He is God and there is no other. He came to us when we wouldn’t come to Him. He agonized in the Garden of Gethsemane bathed in blood-sweat. My guilt and sin became His burden on the cross. He is very God glorified in the hallowed halls of Heaven’s throne room. I am a sinner undone and overcome by evil. He took all that evil and sin, becoming sin for me, so that I might have the righteousness of God in Him. It’s quite overwhelming.
Yet much of the world is perishing. They reject Christ and are condemned already. They do not care about the Lord Jesus. They do not want to be reminded about sin or suffering. They have put eternal torment out of their minds and seared their collective conscience. Jesus beckons them to turn to Him to be saved. He paid the price for their sin, but they must receive Him or it is all for nothing when it comes to them. How can they be so hardened and apathetic …so indifferent. The answer is that they want their sin more than they want salvation. They are not indifferent or apathetic about sin. They spend all their energies on self-righteousness, aimless causes and ideals, and the pursuit of this world’s pleasures. As for me, “I will look to the LORD; I will wait for the God of my salvation. My God will hear me” (Micah 7.7).
