The Test of My Love

“I have swept away your transgressions like a cloud, and your sins like a mist. Return to me, for I have redeemed you” (Isaiah 44.22).

True love. Hard to come by and hard to spot. When I say that I love God, I must be willing to return to Him and obey Him. This is love. My love for God is demonstrated by keeping His commands. And His commands are not a burden to me (1 John 5.3). Jesus said that His burden was light (Matthew 11.30). “Behold, I come; in the scroll of the book it is written of me. I delight to do Your will, O my God, and Your law is within my heart” (Psalm 40.7-8).

If I am ready to do God’s will this morning …if I delight in it …if it is within my heart with fervent zeal to carry out the will of God, then my repentance and faith are genuine. I cannot call Him my Lord and Master and fail to do the things He commands (Luke 6.46). Lord Jesus, help me to build my house on the rock today. Strengthen me to love the Father supremely and to love the people I come into contact with as I would love myself. These two commands are not burdensome. They are your will for me today.
