Memory Verses: Freedom from Sin

The Holy Spirit uses these ten passages in my life to keep me from sin.  God always provides the way of escape (sovereignty); I must take it (responsibility).

  1. “Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me” (Psalm 51.10).
  2. “But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts” (Romans 13.14).
  3. “No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it” (1 Corinthians 10.13).
  4. “For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him” (2 Corinthians 5.21).
  5. “Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God” (2 Corinthians 7.1).
  6. “For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need” (Hebrews 4.15-16).
  7. “Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God” (Hebrews 12.1-2).
  8. “Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you” (James 4.7).
  9. “But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin” (1 John 1.7).
  10. “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1.9).
